Early Life and Career

Kamala Devi Harris was born on October 20, 1964, in Oakland, California. She earned a law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, and began her legal career as a prosecutor in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office.

Political Rise

Harris rose through the ranks in politics, serving as District Attorney of San Francisco from 2004 to 2011. In 2010, she was elected as California's Attorney General, becoming the first woman and the first African American to hold the position.

Vice Presidency

In 2020, Harris became Joe Biden's running mate in the presidential election. Upon their victory, she was sworn in as the 49th Vice President of the United States on January 20, 2021. Harris made history as the first woman, the first African American, and the first Asian American to assume the role.
