Alex Albon Explains Bizarre Air Box Incident After Azerbaijan Gp Qualifying

Alex Albon provides reason behind bizarre air box incident after Azerbaijan GP qualifying

Albon left puzzled by sudden lack of power during qualifying session

Williams Formula One driver Alex Albon has explained the reason behind a bizarre incident that saw him lose power during qualifying for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Albon was on a flying lap when he suddenly lost power, and his car came to a halt on the track. The Thai driver was forced to abandon his lap and start from the back of the grid for Sunday's race.

Air box blockage caused power loss

After the session, Albon revealed that the problem was caused by a blockage in his car's air box. He said that a piece of debris had become lodged in the air intake, which restricted the flow of air to the engine.

With the air intake blocked, the engine was unable to get enough air to burn the fuel properly. This caused the engine to lose power and eventually come to a halt.

Albon said that the incident was "very frustrating" and that he was "gutted" to have lost out on a good qualifying position.

"We were on a really good lap and I was feeling confident," he said. "But then suddenly the car just lost power and I had to stop on the track.

"It's very frustrating, especially when you know that you could have been fighting for a good position on the grid."

Team working to prevent repeat of incident

The Williams team is now working to identify the source of the debris that caused the blockage and to prevent a repeat of the incident in future races.

They are also checking the other cars on the grid to make sure that none have the same problem.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix will take place on Sunday, June 12, 2023. Albon will start the race from the back of the grid, but he will be hoping to make up some places and score points for the team.
