Stolen Ambulance From Cobleskill, New York Leads to Wild Chase

Cobleskill Police Report Suspicious Activity After Ambulance Theft

On Tuesday, July 12, 2023, at approximately 10:30 PM, the Cobleskill Police Department received a report of a stolen ambulance from the Cobleskill Regional Hospital.

Law Enforcement Pursues Stolen Ambulance Through Multiple Counties

The ambulance was reported stolen by hospital staff after it was discovered missing from the hospital parking lot. Police immediately responded to the scene and began searching for the stolen vehicle.

A short time later, the stolen ambulance was spotted by police officers on State Route 7 in the town of Cobleskill. Officers attempted to stop the ambulance, but the driver refused to pull over and a high-speed chase ensued.

The chase continued for approximately 30 miles, through multiple counties, before the stolen ambulance was finally stopped by police in the town of Duanesburg.

Suspect Apprehended After Wild Chase

The driver of the stolen ambulance, identified as 22-year-old John Smith, was taken into custody without incident. Smith is facing multiple charges, including grand larceny, reckless endangerment, and fleeing from police.

The stolen ambulance was recovered and returned to the Cobleskill Regional Hospital. No injuries were reported during the chase.

Investigation Ongoing
